Egypt And Germany In Row Over Nefertiti Bust
BERLIN – APRIL 16: The 3,400-year-old bust of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti stands on display at the Altes Museum April 16, 2007 in Berlin, Germany. Egypt and Germany are in a row over the bust after German Cultural Minister Bernd Neumann declined a request by the Egyptians to receive Nefertiti for a three-month temporary exhibit in Cairo. Neumann cited concerns over the limestone bust’s ability to withstand such a long journey. In response Egyptian officials are threatening to ban any loan of its artifacts to museums in Germany.
